Teburoro Tito, former President of Kiribati and current Permanent Representative to the United Nations Offices in New York and Ambassador to the US from Kiribati has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem.
At the meeting held at the President's Office, vice president and ambassador discussed the many common challenges faced by Maldives and Kiribati as small island states and fellow members of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) with particular regard to the threats posed by climate change.
The vice president and ambassador further discoursed on the common development priorities of the two countries, including strengthening governance and institutions, improving the economy and affording women equal opportunities to men in all socio-economic spheres.
Ending the call, the vice president wished the ambassador well in fulfilling his mandate to the people of Kiribati. The ambassador, in turn, wished President Solih, Vice President Naseem and the administration all possible success in fulfilling their pledges to the Maldivian people.
