Ali Shareef to represent lower courts at JSC

Chief Magistrate of Laamu Atoll Judicial Constituency Ali Shareef has won the election held to determine a judge to represent lower courts at Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Ali Shareef won the election with 127 votes, after competing against Chief Judge of Criminal Court Ahmed Hailam and Chief Magistrate of Fiyoaree Abdul Razzaq Mohamed. Chief Judge Hailam won 37 votes while Magistrate Abdul Razzaq Mohamed won a single vote.

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) placed a total of 21 ballot boxes in polling stations located in the main elections office in Male' City and courts in islands and cities from each judicial constituency.

The election was held as the term of the current member representing lower courts in JSC, Juvenile Court Judge Mohamed Eesafulhu, expires on August 27.

JSC is comprised of 10 members.
