Ministry of Education has revealed efforts are underway to ensure teachers graduating from colleges and universities are qualified to follow the new national curriculum. The ministry has now begun discussions on the matter.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Education Dr. Abdulla Rasheed said although the curriculum has changed, teachers are not familiar with the curriculum and they lack the talent and education required. State Minister Abdulla Rasheed stated although training programmes were held for teachers, it was not done in an official manner. However, he mentioned discussions are now being held with Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) and National Institute of Education (NIE).
The new curriculum was adapted on four key stages, introducing a key stage each year. The new curriculum defers from the traditional education system and the grading system. The biggest challenge faced in implementing the system is the lack of educated and skilled teachers. As part of the efforts to solve the issue, the education ministry has now begun discussions with relevant authorities to shape the courses offered from colleges and universities in relevance with the new curriculum.
