Maldives and Pakistan discuss Kashmir issue

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid has held discussions over the telephone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

During the discussions, Minister Qureshi briefed Minister Shahid on the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and conveyed the views of the Government of Pakistan on the decision of the Government of India to repeal Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

Minister Shahid thanked Minister Qureshi for the telephone call and stated both Pakistan and India are close friends and bilateral partners of Maldives and stressed the importance of resolving differences between countries amicably through peaceful means. Minister Shahid also stated Maldives viewed the decision taken by India regarding Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as an internal matter, according to a statement published by the foreign ministry of Maldives.

Further, Minister Shahid assured Minister Qureshi that Maldives will always remain a close friend of Pakistan and expressed confidence Maldives and Pakistan will continue to cooperate in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern, bilaterally, regionally, and internationally.
