Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed tourism establishments in 16 atolls have been inspected.
The tourism minister said out of the 20 atolls, all tourism establishments in 16 atolls have been inspected, adding the inspections will be concluded in all establishments before September 27. The minister stated minimum requirement approval sticker will be released upon completion of inspections. He expressed the inspections will be done annually to renew the stickers.
The administration began inspecting the safety and security of tourism establishments to ensure the safety of tourists. The inspection is done by Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
The tourism ministry first inspected the tourism establishment on February as part of the nationwide inspection programme. In efforts to inspect all entities that provide services to tourists and monitor whether the service providers follow the necessary laws and regulations, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established a committee.
The inspections are expected to identify issues in the establishments and improve the sector.
