Over 1 million tourists arrive in Maldives so far this year

Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 1 million tourists have arrived in Maldives so far this year.

Speaking to the media, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed said the 1 millionth tourist arrived in Maldives on August 2. Further, the tourism minister expressed the aim is to welcome 1.5 million tourists to Maldives, adding the administration hopes to reach the target by November 17, which marks one year since the administration assumed office.

132,144 tourists arrived in Maldives in July, which is an increase of 8% when compared with the same month of the previous year, according to statistics published by tourism ministry. The statistics also showed 994,733 tourists arrived in Maldives by the end of July, which is an increase of 17.2% when compared with the same period of last year.

Most tourists arrived in Maldives in July from China, India, Germany and the UK.
