MMPRC sues 3 companies seeking compensation over corruption scandal

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has stated three companies have been sued seeking compensation over the corruption scandal.

Speaking at the Parliament Committee on Finance, Managing Director of MMPRC Thayyib Mohamed said the state-owned company had issued funds for three companies for dollar transactions. He said MMPRC is now working to revert back those funds.

Further, Thayyib Mohamed explained MMPRC is claiming USD 10.7 million from SOF Private Limited, USD 2.5 million from Millennium Capital Management Private Limited and USD 1.47 million from Monte Leone International Private Limited. He noted the attorney general has also maintained the funds must directly be received to MMPRC.

The corruption scandal of MMPRC totals a loss of USD 1.3 billion to the state. The biggest amount was deposited to Millennium Capital Management and Monte Leone International Private Limited from SOF Private Limited, according to a report published by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Thayyib revealed no amount has been recovered yet.
