Action to be taken against import and sale of medical products via postal services

Ministry of Health has warned of action against import and sale of medicines and products with traces of medicines, via postal services.

Purchase and import of medicines and products containing traces of medicines via the internet and postal services for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited and if required, medicine and items with trace medicine can only imported by those with a valid prescription, according to the regulations.

In a statement, the health ministry said it has been noticed medicines and products with traces of medicine are imported via postal services or brought on hand in violation of the regulations. Noting most such products or medicines are not registered in Maldives, health ministry stated safety of such products are not warranted.

The ministry also said all substances in the medicines are sometimes not included on the label and in some cases the labels will not be clear. Therefore, the ministry has warned of strict action against the import and sale of such products without a permit from the ministry.
