President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have returned to Maldives following the conclusion of a four-day unofficial visit to Sri Lanka. This was the second time President Solih is visiting Sri Lanka since assuming office last November.
The president was scheduled to depart to Sri Lanka on August 13. However, he pushed back the trip to observe a friendly volleyball match played between the national teams of Maldives and Sri Lanka. Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof said the president staying for the volleyball match shows the importance given by him for sports.
While the president has visited Sri Lanka on an unofficial visit, he had also undertaken a state visit to the country last February, on an invitation from Maithripala Sirisena.
