MDP Parliamentary Group discuss no confidence motion against PG Bisham

Majority Leader of Parliament Ali Azim has revealed discussions have been held at the Parliamentary Group of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) regarding the no-confidence motion submitted against Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham.

Speaking to PSM News, MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ali Azim revealed no decisions were made on the issue, although discussions have been held regarding the motion. Assuring the parliamentary group of the main ruling party operates within the regulations, Azim noted a decision will also be made within the regulations of the parliament.

Over concerns on the prosecutor general for not appealing the case regarding abducted journalist Ahmed Rilwan at High Court, Parliamentarian Moosa Siraj submitted a motion to the MDP Parliamentary Group seeking to remove Bisham from the position. Citing the manner the prosecutor general presented the case at court and failing to appeal the case, Siraj said there is no confidence in the prosecutor general in performing her mandate.

Any member holding a position at an independent institution can be removed from the post with votes from two-third parliamentarians taking part in the vote.
