President extends greetings on the occasion of Indian Independence Day

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended greetings on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day of India, acknowledging India as a close international partner of Maldives.

In a tweet posted congratulating India, President Solih extended warmest felicitations to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the people of India. Noting India is a neighbour and a close friend, the president expressed hope to continue working with the Government of India to further strengthen ties between the two countries. Relations between Maldives and India have boosted since President Solih assumed office last November, despite the straining of relations during the past presidency.

Furthermore, President Solih also extended warmest greetings to Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and the people of Pakistan on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day of Pakistan. In his message, the president wished peace, wellness and prosperity to the brotherly people of Pakistan, expressing hope to improve relations between two countries in the years ahead.

Pakistan gained independence on August 14, 1947, while India gained independence a day later, on August 15, 1947.
