Fenaka Corporation Limited has provided generators to five islands in efforts to improve electricity services in the atolls.
Fenaka Corporation is currently working to send generators to Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Fonadhoo and Gan in Laamu Atoll and Guraidhoo in Thaa Atoll. Fenaka revealed a 1 megawatt generator will be provided for the power houses in Villingili, Thinadhoo and Fonadhoo, while 800 kilowatt generators will be provided for the power houses in Gan and Guraidhoo.
Although shipping the generators have been halted due to the weather, efforts will be made to send the generators to the islands within the next 24 hours, according to Fenaka. The state-owned utility company said the new generators will boost the efforts to provide uninterrupted electricity services to the growing population in the islands.
Fenaka provides electricity to 149 islands in Maldives. By last May, Fenaka had spent over USD 9 million to improve its services.
