A parliamentarian of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted to oust Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham.
Over concern on the case of the abducted journalist Ahmed Rilwan, Parliamentarian Moosa Siraj has submitted a motion to the MDP Parliamentary Group seeking to remove the sitting prosecutor general from the position. Moosa Siraj said regarding the manner the prosecutor general presented the case at the court and failing to appeal the case, there is no confidence in the prosecutor general in performing her mandate.
Any member holding a position at an independent institution can be removed from the post with votes from two-third parliamentarians present at the sitting.
With 65 out of the 87 seats in parliament, MDP holds a supermajority.
