Maldivians in Kerala advised to be cautious about weather

The Consulate of Maldives in Trivandrum has urged Maldivians in Kerala to be cautious about the weather.

The Government of Kerala issued a red alert for nine districts in north and central Kerala over flooding due to heavy rain.

Following the alerts, Maldivians in Kerala have been advised to be extra cautious about the weather. The Consulate in Trivandrum noted Cochin International Airport has closed until August 11 and has asked Maldivians to contact its hotline for any assistance.

As heavy rains continue to lash Kerala and Karnataka, operations at Cochin International Airport have been suspended. The death toll in Kerala due to heavy rain and flooding has climbed to 22. The monsoon trough is passing through Rajasthan, centre of the depression in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and east-central Bay of Bengal, according to authorities.

A depression over Madhya Pradesh progresses eastward. It is expected to gradually weaken and degrade into a Well-Marked Low Pressure Area in the next 24 hours. Heavy rain with thunderstorms are more than likely along its path.

Until Saturday morning, rainfall of 50-120 millimetres is expected in western Madhya Pradesh and 50-200 millimetres in Gujarat which may result in flooding in portions of the region.
