Sushma Swaraj: Architect in restoring relations between Maldives and India

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has extended condolences on the demise of Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj.

The foreign minister extended condolences to the government and the people of India on behalf of the government and the people of Maldives. Noting Maldives have lost a friend and a close partner, Minister Shahid said India have lost a stalwart and inspirational diplomat.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid expressed Sushma Swaraj is a main pillar in restoring relations between Maldives and India, adding she worked to take relations to a new step. The minister highlighted the former external affairs minister of India is an exemplary diplomat, appealing everyone to take note from her diplomacy. He said her legacy of contribution to the Maldives-India relationship will endure.

Sushma Swaraj, who stood as a strong and dynamic leader, changed the dynamics of India's foreign policy and diplomacy by strengthening ties with foreign countries. She was admired as a leader and loved as a friend by all. Foreign countries are saddened as they recall Sushma Swaraj and her contribution in fortifying relations.

Sushma Swaraj passed away suffering a heart attack, at the age of 67.
