Home Minister dismayed over former ACC head's accusations

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has expressed concern over the accusations made by the former President of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Hassan Luthufee.

Former President of ACC Luthufee claimed home minister Imran warned him and said he would be arrested.

Expressing dismay over the accusations, in a tweet, the home minister said it is surprising that such accusations were made to mislead people into believing he is capable of such an action. The home Minister Imran Abdulla noted trying to convince the public that he would stoop as low as framing innocent people is surprising and unbelievable. He expressed confidence no Maldivian would believe such baseless accusations.

However, while speaking to Maldivian media while in self-exile, Luthufee said Imran threatened to frame and arrest him, in addition to warning to jail former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

Luthufee had said he was living in constant fear as a result of threatening phone calls and attempts to coerce him to ensure his witness statement would incriminate the former president.

Following the accusations, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Alliance (PNC) issued a joint statement expressing concerns on the allegations against the home minister.
