Leader of the opposition coalition, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has criticised the administration alleging the pledge made to increase the salary of civil servants cannot not be achieved.
Speaking at a gathering held jointly by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Alliance (PNC), former President Yameen claimed the administration which replaced him last November is struggling to pay salaries for state employees. The former president commented the administration has also not conducted any development project that will benefit the public.
Disparaging some policies of the administration, Yameen added although there are plans to connect nearby islands with causeways, it is deemed impossible. He further said the administration has politicised the independent institutions and courts of law.
While many members from the opposition coalition spoke during the gathering, they widely criticized the administration and its policies.
