Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated the nutrition situation of the country has not improved in comparison with the developments brought to the country.
During a ceremony held at Hotel Jen, Health Minister Ameen launched the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Strategy (SBCC). The strategy specifies guidance to nutrition for the child receive since the early stage of conception to the age of two years which is also known as 1,000 days. The strategy is formed in reference to global best practice standards and experiences. The strategy also highlights what can be done to improve nutrition situation and protection from non-communicable diseases.
Speaking at the ceremony, the health minister said although developments are brought to the country, the situation of nutrition is not improving likewise. The minister said it is important to be cautious about non-communicable diseases during the first stage of children, highlighting the importance of breast feeding for six months before introducing the child to different foods.
Furthermore, a special application named Yaagooth was launched. The application consists of nutrition information required to the mother and children.
In addition, Faces of First 1,000 Days was also launched. The Faces of First 1,000 Days in life-selected advocates will volunteer and commit their time for promotion of good nutrition and adequate care.
