Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has revealed social media platforms are utilised to promote violent and extremist ideologies among Maldivian youth,
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training programme on terrorism and extremism, Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan noted Maldives is threatened by terrorism. The higher education minister said extremists are using social media platforms to promote violent ideologies among Maldivian youth. He said the training programme would assist authorities in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
The three-day programme on Extremism and Counter Terrorism was held in collaboration with Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in Saudi Arabia and with assistance from Government of Japan and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Maldives.
The programme was participated by over 60 individuals from government agencies, non-governmental organisations and various sectors.
