Opposition calls to form a bench to proceed case against Yameen

Opposition coalition has claimed a single judge proceeding over the money laundering charges against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom hinders justice.

The opposition coalition formed by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) stated there are several challenges and concerns regarding the charges raised against the former president. In this regard, the opposition coalition raised concerns over a single judge proceeding over the case calling to form a bench to proceed the case for impartiality.

Furthermore, the opposition coalition asked why charges are raised only against Yameen, despite the funds being deposited to several other accounts.

The opposition coalition also expressed refusal to believe the charges against Yameen were raised against corruption, adding the charges are politically motivated.
