President submits United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation to Parliament

Acting on the advice of the Cabinet of Ministers, and on a paper submitted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to submit the text of the United Nations Convention on International Settlement agreements resulting from Mediation to the Parliament of Maldives for approval.

The underlying intention of the convention is to facilitate the smooth flow of trade between signatory states by standardising international commercial dispute settlement mechanisms, from the compiled agreements between states pertinent to commercial dispute resolution.

General Assembly resolution 73/198 which established the convention was passed on December 28 at a sitting of the United Nations General Assembly. The ceremony for signing the treaty is scheduled to be held in Singapore on August 7.
