All information provided to parliament are legit: BML

Bank of Maldives (BML) has assured all information provided to parliament are legit.

In a statement in response to the claims that BML shared false information to the parliament, the national bank revealed representatives who attended parliamentary committees shared information according to the records. BML added the questions posed by parliamentarians were also answered in accordance with the records, reassuring its legitimacy.

In a statement attached with a letter sent to parliament, BML stated the internal audit conducted regarding the transaction which involves cheques named as Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and an account of SOF Private Limited was proceeded in accordance and in reference to records.

The bank maintained it was not involved in the largest corruption scandal in Maldives, adding all information were submitted to the relevant authorities. In the statement, BML said it wishes for the swift conclusion of the MMPRC scandal, adding the bank would cooperate the attempts of the parliament to investigate the case.

BML issued the statement after Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed accused CEO of BML Mohamed Shareef of providing false information to Parliamentary Committee on Finance.

The parliamentary committee has been looking in to any wrongdoing or involvement by state financial authorities regarding the MMPRC scandal.
