Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has assisted 7 foreign vessels stranded in Maldivian seas due to severe weather.
The vessels were fishing in Maldivian Exclusive Economic Zone in accordance with international regulations and assistance was provided once requested by the crews, according to MNDF.
Speaking to media, Information Officer Ibrahim Azim said upon request from the vessels for assistance as the crew feared to be caught in the weather, international assistance was provided immediately.
Azim elaborated the vessels were given permission to stay in a certain area until weather favours to resume the trip. While the vessels are now anchored in Haa Alifu Atoll, Azim assured the boats will not enter any harbour in the outlying islands.
