Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated certain changes need to be brought to the traffic flow and roads of Male' City before commencing mini bus operations. MTCC has concluded a survey to commence minibus operations and has submitted the findings to Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
While the service will be provided by utilising electric buses, MTCC added the buses will be easily accessible to passengers. The agreement to introduce minibus services to Maldives was signed on February 6.
Speaking to the media, Assistant General Manager of Transport Department of MTCC Mohamed Nazim revealed buses with a capacity of 16-20 passengers will be utilised in the operation. He added before commencing the operations the traffic and road networks need to be monitored and changed.
MTCC will commence the service with at least 20 mini buses, according to the agreement. MTCC is also required to accommodate 24 passengers at once and the buses must be environment friendly. The introduction of minibuses will ease transportation within the capital city, according to the government.
