Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in Maldives

Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain in various parts of the country.

Fairly widespread rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country, while surface winds will be south-west/westerly at 8-18 miles per hour in southern atolls and west/north-westerly at 15-25 miles per hour elsewhere, according to the Met Office.

Moreover, the Met Office revealed winds may gust 45-50 miles per hour during showers and forecast that seas are expected to be moderate becoming rough during showers in southern atolls and generally rough elsewhere. Furthermore, the Met Office warned of possible of swell wave surges in the central and southern atolls during high tides.

Following the weather warning, the Met Office advised to be cautious and alerted about weather changes.

Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported Kulhudhuffushi and Hirimaradhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll sustained damages following heavy rain. NDMA has also advised to take precautionary measures to prevent any damage to households.
