As the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has called on Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth.
At the meeting held in Port Louis, Minister Shahid extended warm greetings from President Solih and presented a letter to Prime Minister Jugnauth from President Solih. During the call, Minister Shahid and Prime Minister Jugnauth discussed ways to further enhance the relationship between Maldives and Mauritius, through cooperation in various arenas.
Furthermore, the foreign minister also met with the Minister of Youth and Sports of Mauritius Jean Christophe Stephen Toussaint and President of the Mauritius Olympic Committee Philippe Hao Thyn Voon Ha Shun, and requested support to the Maldives' bid to host Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2023.
Following the meeting, in a tweet, the minister said he was very impressed by the arrangements for IOIG 2019 in Mauritius.
Foreign Minister Shahid is visiting Mauritius as part of his current tour as the Special Envoy of President Solih, to seek support for the Maldives' bid to host IOIG 2023. He is accompanied by Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof.
