No Maldivian effected by devastating floods and landslides in Nepal: Foreign Ministry

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed it has received no reports that any Maldivian residing in Nepal have been effected by the devastating floods and landslides. The ministry also said it is monitoring the situation in Nepal closely and is in continuous contact with the Honorary Consul in Nepal and the Embassy of Maldives in New Delhi, India.

In a message of sympathy to the Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said he was deeply saddened to hear of the devastating floods and landslides, causing loss of life, injury to many, and extensive damage to property and infrastructure. He also wished success to the rescue and recovery efforts of those who are directly affected by this tragedy.

In a message of condolence to Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Minister of Foreign Affairs extended heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the government and the people of Nepal, especially to the members of the bereaved families.

The Government of Nepal said flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have killed at least 50 people in Nepal in the past few days, with more deaths reported across the Himalayan border in India.
