Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has met officials from Madagascar, as part of his current tour as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, to seek support for Maldives' bid to host the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2023.
During his visit to Madagascar, the foreign minister met Special Representative of the Prime Minister of Madagascar and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Hajo Andrianainarivelo and delivered a letter from President Solih to the Prime Minister of Madagascar requesting support for Maldives' bid to host IOIG 2023.
Madagascar is one of the countries to have expressed interest to host IOIG 2023. The country has previously hosted the games in 1990 and 2007.
Previously, Minister Shahid visited Seychelles and called on President Danny Faure. He also presented a letter from President Solih.
During the tour, the foreign minister is accompanied by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Development Ahmed Mahloof.
