No efforts were made to assist struggling investors: Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed no efforts were made by the previous administration to assist the parties that were unable to continue or complete the resort development projects in Maldives.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on Government Performance Review, Minister Ali Waheed some investors have struggled to develop resorts for periods as long as 12 years. The minister said previous administrations have failed to pave easier ways for resort developing parties. He revealed the ministry has now asked Attorney General's Office for a way forward with struggling parties.

Statistics from tourism ministry show 117 islands have not been developed as resorts, as per the agreement with the government. Tourism ministry is now aiming to complete 45 of those islands within a period of 3 years.
