45 new resorts to be introduced to the market in the next 3 years

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed 45 new resorts would be introduced to the market in the next 3 years.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister Ali Waheed said the surveys conducted by Ministry of Tourism estimates 45 new resorts would be introduced to the market in the next 3 years. The tourism minister added in addition to the introduction of new tourist resorts, the administration prioritise the completion of resorts that have faced difficulties and delays in launching the properties. He estimated 70 islands leased to construct resorts have not been completed and introduced to the market, adding the administration would offer assistance to such parties.

Highlighting the ministry had received complaints from various atolls due to the delay in opening new resorts, the minister noted the introduction of new resorts would provide the youth living in the atolls with more job opportunities, benefits and the growth of economy. Therefore, the minister revealed discussions are underway with Ministry of Economic Development to speed up the construction of 30 resorts, which have been delayed due to various reasons.

Minister Ali Waheed noted most of the companies faced difficulties in establishing the resorts due to the policies implemented by the previous administration. He assured the current administration favours investors and would provide easier ways to develop businesses in Maldives.
