Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed one island had been leased to three different parties during the previous administration.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister Ali Waheed said during the past administration, Ministry of Tourism function against the laws and regulation, paving way to acts of corruption. Elaborating one case, the tourism minister expressed an island in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll was leased to three different parties, with the government receiving USD 600,000 from one party and a further USD 1.3 million from another party.
The minister assured such cases would be forwarded to the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal action. He said the administration does not wish any businessman or a firm to face a loss, assuring the rights of the investors would be ensured and protected.
