Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has reaffirmed commitment of the government of Maldives to further strengthen existing bilateral relations with Seychelles. The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting with Principal Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs of Seychelles Dr. Marina Confait.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Seychelles, Minister Shahid and Principal Secretary Confait discussed avenues of expanding cooperation between the two countries on a range of bilateral issues, placing special emphasis on the areas of sports, youth and community empowerment and tourism. He was accompanied at the call by Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Development Ahmed Mahloof.
Foreign Minister Shahid is visiting Seychelles as part of his current tour as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to seek support for the Maldives' bid to host the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2023.
As part of his visit, the foreign minister called on President of Seychelles Danny Faure. At the meeting held at the State House in Victoria, Minister Shahid extended greetings and well wishes, and presented a letter from President Solih to President Faure. During the call, Minister Shahid and President Faure discussed ways to further enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
