The main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted a motion regarding the remarks made by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom at an opposition rally.
Speaking after submitting the motion, Parliamentarian Mohamed Nihad described the state was threatened when former President Yameen declared the agreements signed by the current administration will be taken apart, if he comes back to power. Nihad urged Parliamentary Committee on National Security to investigate the threats.
Opposition parliamentarians from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) expressed the motion was submitted against parliamentary regulations.
At an opposition rally held by the PPM-PNC coalition, Yameen declared the agreements signed by the current administration will be taken apart, if he comes back to power.
In a tweet, responding to the former president, Speaker of Parliament and the President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed said such acts would be the reason why Yameen would never come back to power.
