President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has claimed the aim of the administration is to set the lowest possible internet rates in Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference held at President’s Office, President Solih said Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology has proposed lower rates for internet. However, the president said he wishes to further lower the rates proposed by the ministry.
Previously, Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal said discussions are underway with telecommunication companies to lower the internet rates. He said the administration plans to lower the rates even if permits have to be given to new companies to operate in Maldives.
Internet rates are fairly expensive in Maldives compared to the rates available in the region. The president has pledged to lower the rates within his first term in office.
