First Lady Fazna Ahmed has appealed citizens to make all celebratory events, environmentally friendly. The first lady made the statement, in an interview with PSM News, after participating in the Aminiya Diamond Jubilee Run, held as part of the 75th anniversary of the school.
First Lady Fazna and the Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali participated in the Diamond Jubilee Run. Over 2,500 past and present pupils of Aminiya School participated in the event held at Central Park, in Hulhumale'. Aminiya School is holding several events to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee.
Speaking with PSM News, First Lady Fazna stressed on the importance of displaying environmentally friendly practices during celebratory events. She noted on the importance of teaching young children the culture of helping one another and environmentally friendly practices.
Many of the participants, especially past pupils noted how such events help them relive the memories of their times as students. Participants who completed the run were awarded medals.
Founded in 1944, Aminiya School was the first, all-girls' school in Maldives. However in 2011, the first batch of boys were enrolled into the now co-ed school. The school will mark its 75th anniversary on November 28.
Currently, the school teaches 2,380 students, across 10 grades.
