President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the project to construct bridges, as part of the efforts to connect all islands in Greater Male' Region, would be launched in February 2020.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, President Solih said as per his electoral pledge, research is underway to connect Male', Vilimale', Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi. The president added the administration has opened for consultancy for the project. He said the project to reclaim land in the areas connecting the bridges will be launched in November 2019.
The administration estimates the construction of the bridges would cost USD 488 million. The main port in Maldives, Male' Commercial Harbour, would be shifted to Thilafushi as part of the project. The administration expects ease in transport and carrying cargo upon the conclusion of the project.
