State Trading Organisation (STO) has revealed it has recovered the documents, which have been previously said to be lost, regarding a payment of over USD 1.226 million from Meridium Service Private Limited.
Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on State-owned Enterprises, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amr revealed printed documents regarding the payment have not been found, adding however, the digital documents have been found. Amr added the documents have now been handed over to High Court of Maldives and expressed hope the case against Meridium which had been held up at the court would be completed soon. He said STO faced challenges and losses as the case was held up at the court, adding STO has now requested the court to speed up the case.
In 2010, STO sold fuel worth over USD 1.226 million to Meridium but failed to receive the payment. However, in June 2016, Civil Court of Maldives ruled there is no evidence STO sold fuel to Meridium.
The case has since been appealed at the High Court.
