Maldives seeking more ambulances to establish National Ambulance Service

Ministry of Finance issues an announcement to purchase 11 more ambulances to be utilised by Ministry of Health, as part of the efforts to establish a national ambulance service in Maldives.

In a notice issued, finance ministry opened opportunity to submit proposals, adding interested parties must pay a non-refundable registration fee of USD 100. Moreover, the parties submitting proposals must pay a bid security of USD 3,228. The government of India has provided USD 5 million to Maldives to purchase ambulances.

Noting 30 percent of ambulances in Maldives are unused due to poor maintenance, Minister of health Abdulla Ameen previously revealed a mechanism will also be established to continue services to be provided from all ambulances deployed across the country.

In efforts to provide better and swift health services to geographically dispersed islands, the administration has decided to establish a national ambulance service.

Finance ministry has previously issued an announcement to purchase 15 ambulances.
