The main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has elected Ali Azim as the Parliamentary Group Leader.
Azim was the sole candidate who ran for the position. He managed to win 57 votes.
MDP also elected two Deputy Parliamentary Group Leaders. In this regard, Ilyas Labeeb won 57 votes and Husain Shaheem won 54 votes.
Furthermore, Mohamed Rasheed Hussain was elected as the Secretary General and Hussain Mohamed was elected as the Deputy Secretary General.
Meanwhile, Rozeyna Adam was elected as the Senior Whip, while Mossa Siraj, Haitham Ahmed, Mohamed Nihad, Ibrahim Muizzu, Mohamed Shifau, Yasir Abdul Latheef and Abdul Mughni were elected as whips.
MDP holds a super majority in parliament after securing 65 out of the 87 seats in the parliamentary elections held last April.
