Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has assured projects carried out in the health sector would be environment friendly initiatives. The health minister made the statement speaking at the Abu Dhabi Climate Meeting held from June 30 to July 1.
Speaking at the two-day meeting held to set up the agenda for the United Nations Climate Action Summit to be held in New York scheduled for September, Minister Ameen held discussions with participating countries on the effects on health from the negative impacts on the environment and ways on how diseases caused by pollution can be prevented.
The minister further noted the effects on health caused by the impact from sea-level rise. Therefore, Ameen highlighted the importance of conducting projects that are environment friendly. He assured the policies would be adopted by the government of Maldives.
Furthermore, the minister revealed ongoing projects that are environment friendly launched in Maldives, including the development of a green hospital. He also urged more funds must be raised by the international community to conduct environment friendly projects.
More than 1,000 delegates attended the climate meeting and discussed topics including threats to human health and the economic benefits of tackling the issue.
