IFRC commends initiatives launched by Maldivian Government

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has commended initiated launched by the Government of Maldives. The remarks were made during a courtesy call by President of IFRC Francesco Rocca on Vice President Faisal Naseem.

During the call at the President’s Office, Francesco Rocca especially commended the Maldivian government’s initiative to reduce single-use plastic. Rocco noted it manifests the commitment and the leadership of the administration to build an environment-friendly, resilient and self-sustaining nation, and urged the government to instil change around the globe through lived example. While speaking of the importance of continuous volunteer training, he emphasised the considerable influence at the grassroots level to make a difference for the betterment of the society.

Meanwhile, Vice President Naseem extended deep appreciation for the generous humanitarian aid extended by the movement over the years towards disaster response and risk management as well as community development. Highlighting the country-wide community-based training programmes led by the movement, particularly in the area of first aid, vice president noted the potential scope of expanding joint efforts in climate action, elderly care and youth empowerment.

The call concluded with both sides conveying firm assurances of mutual support and assistance to elevate existing levels of cooperation in the coming months.
