Ambassador of Australia to Maldives David Holly has underscored efforts are underway to enhance trade ties between the two counties. The Australian ambassador made the remarks at a press conference held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives commemorating 45 years of establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Addressing the press, Ambassador Holly stated further efforts will be initiated to boost assistance in conducting developmental projects in Maldives. Assuring Australia will always support and back Maldives in establishing a good governance system and strengthening democracy, the ambassador said Australia will also assist Maldives in its initiation to enhance sectors such as education and health.
Furthermore, Molly stated the reason for few Maldivians travelling to Australia will be identified, highlighting the amount of Maldivians travelling to Australia has decreased in the past couple of years. He further reiterated cooperation in enhancing the security of the region and in fighting against impacts of climate change.
Moreover, the Australian ambassador welcomed the decision of Maldives to re-join commonwealth.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed said Australia is an instrumental and indispensable partner in the socio-economic development of Maldives.
Maldives and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1974.
