Poor situation of state companies is a challenge in providing services: Finance Minister

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has stated the biggest challenge faced in providing services to citizens is the poor situation of the government companies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Strengthening of Corporate Governance Symposium, Finance Minister Ameer said the administration came to power with certain pledges aimed at providing improved services to the citizens. In this regard, he mentioned one main challenge is the poor situation of the government companies when the administration took office. He expressed several efforts are exerted to make necessary amendments and improve the state of the companies.

During the ceremony, the Corporate Governance Code was launched by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The code prepared with the technical assistance of international experts will assist in companies executing their duties and mandates within the rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, heads of all state-owned enterprises signed a declaration pledging to eradicate corruption within their institutions, including chairpersons, managing directors and deputy managing directors.
