Maldives and Russia sign an Agreement for the Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements

Maldives and Russia have signed an Agreement for the Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements. The agreement was signed as part of the visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid to Russia.

The agreement was signed following a meeting held between Minister Shahid and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov. The two ministers discussed on enhancing the long standing relations between Maldives and Russia. Discussions were further focused on enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various avenues such as increasing export of Maldives fish to Russia, tourism, climate change, counter-terrorism.

The agreement aims to enhance greater exchange of people to people contact between the two countries and would provide 90 days on arrival visa for Maldivians travelling to Russia.

This is the first time the foreign ministers of both Maldives and Russia would meet to discuss on strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
