A Maldivian national team to hold a training camp in Europe for the first time

A Maldivian national team would be holding a training camp in Europe for the first time, according to Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof.

In a tweet, the youth minister revealed the National Volleyball Men’s Team has been given the opportunity to travel to Serbia and hold a training camp, as part of the efforts to gear up for the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) to be held in Mauritius from July 19-28.

The arrangements from the Government of Serbia were made during a meeting held with Minister of Youth and Sport of Serbia Vanja Udovičić in Belgrade. During the meeting, the Serbian minister assured on his country’s support to develop sports in Maldives, especially volley, water polo and basketball. He will visit Maldives and sign a memorandum of understanding to assist in the development of youth and sports, according to Minister Mahloof.

The Maldivian minister is in Belgrade on an official invitation from the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia.
