JSC asks Parliament to dismiss Thinadhoo Magistrate

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has forwarded a proposal to the parliament to dismiss Magistrate Ibrahim Rasheed from Thinadhoo Magistrate Court in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. This is the first time JSC proposed to dismiss a judge over a disciplinary issue.

In a tweet, JSC revealed the proposal to dismiss the magistrate has been forwarded to the parliament. Ibrahim Rasheed have been on suspension since May 30, 2016. He was suspended after he was arrested by Maldives Police Service over a drug case in March 2016.

JSC is mandated to overlook any issue concerning a judge, according to the constitution. However, it must be submitted to the parliament to dismiss a judge.

A judge can be dismissed with two-third of the votes.
