Situation in Maafushi Prison does not pose a threat to national security

Parliamentary Committee for National Security and Foreign Relations has declared the current situation in Maafushi Prison does not pose any threat to the security of Maldives.

Referring to the information collected from Commissioner of Prisons Abdulla Munaz after he was summoned to the parliamentary committee, Chair of the committee Parliamentarian Ibrahim Shareef assured there is no imminent threat to the security of Maldives. However, he noted the largest prison in the country is in a worrisome state, adding the case would be further investigated by Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and Gender.

Elaborating on the information collected from the prisons commissioner, Shareef highlighted Maafushi Prison does not have the necessary facilities, adding the officers in the prison is not enough. The members in the committee requested to allocate funds to solve the issues faced in Maafushi Prison in the state budget for next year.
