MACL completes development of North Apron at VIA

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed the development of new East Apron at Velana International Airport (VIA) has been completed.

To solve the issue of aircraft parking due to insufficient space, MACL has been conducting projects to develop aprons at two locations of the airport. In this regard, MACL has now completed the development of East Apron. Efforts are currently ongoing to test East Apron before the commissioning, according to MACL.

The company has revealed 3 wide-body aircraft and 2 narrow-body aircraft or 8 narrow-body aircraft can be parked at the 55,300 square metre East Apron at any given time. Due to the increase in international flights and chartered flights complimenting the boost in tourism industry, MACL has struggled to accommodate the aircraft at VIA.

A project to develop another apron at VIA is still ongoing, according to MACL.
