MACL completes structure of new Cargo Terminal Complex at VIA

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed the structure of the new cargo terminal complex at Velana International Airport (VIA) has been completed.

MACL said the roofing of the structure has been installed, with floor slabs to be casted next as part of the project to develop a 12,000 square metre cargo terminal complex. The project was contracted to China-based Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), the same company which completed the construction of a new Code F runway. MACL said the new terminal cargo complex would be 50 percent larger than the current complex.

A total of 120-thousand tonnes of goods can be stored at the new complex at any given time, which would have the latest technological facilities installed to ease loading and unloading of goods, according to MACL.

MACL aims to complete the project by 2020.
