Maldives and the US sign an MoU on normalising the American Corner Partnership and an Amendment to DOAG

During a ceremony held at Kurumba Maldives at the side-lines of the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on normalising the American Corner Partnership between Maldives and the US.

The MoU would ensure the continuity of the American Centre partnership between the Maldives and the US and aims to enhance the cultural cooperation between both countries. This was followed by the signing of the Amendment to the DOAG signed on March 12, 2019, by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel on behalf of the Government of the Maldives and USAID Mission Director Reed Aeschliman on behalf of the US Agency for International Development.

Through the new Amendment, the US Government commits additional USD 8 million to improve the resilience of individuals and communities to drive inclusive and sustainable development, according to the foreign ministry.
